Home
data networks are quickly becoming ubiquitous, driven by the desire to share
broadband access between multiple computers in the home. Over the next few
years, data networks will evolve into true home multimedia networks that allow
consumers to access, manage, and share digital content such as high definition
video between HDTV sets, DVRs, game consoles, home gateways, PCs, and home
media servers. The benefits to the consumer are substantial.
To truly realize the tremendous potential a home network can provide, it must
set-up and configure itself and deliver uncompromising throughput performance
everywhere in the home so that consumers have the same high quality, no jitter,
no latency experience whether their content is coming from the STB attached
to their TV or the DVR on the other side of their house.
Consumers need to be able to set up their home network without drilling holes
and pulling new wiring or configuring complicated wireless security protocols.
In other words, the home network must be invisible to the consumer. Connectivity
must evolve from being a separate function to being built into products as
an integrated feature. Connected devices must conform to universal standards
so that consumers don’t need to think about interoperability when purchasing
entertainment and computer equipment from different vendors.
Gigle’s system-on-chip integrated circuits combine three complimentary
technology elements to deliver the sustained high bandwidth, quality of service,
ease of use, flexibility of installation, and management capabilities required
by the most demanding home multimedia networks.
